Now Schumer is sharing something more serious, her real life-long struggle with trichotillomania, the compulsive urge to pull out her hair.\u00a0 She has shared about her struggles with endometriosis, Lyme disease, and even more personal stuff like having a sex life after giving birth, but she has kept her hair-pulling problems to herself, until deciding to include it on her new Hulu\u00a0dramedy, \u201cLife &amp; Beth\u201d.<\/p>\n<div class=\"primary-cli cli cli-text \">\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI think everybody has a big secret and that\u2019s mine,\u201d\u00a0<a class=\" js-entry-link cet-external-link\" role=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-features\/amy-schumer-hulu-show-big-secret-life-beth-1235114812\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-vars-item-name=\"she told The Hollywood Reporter\" data-vars-item-type=\"text\" data-vars-unit-name=\"623ded28e4b0bcc5b478c21f\" data-vars-unit-type=\"buzz_body\" data-vars-target-content-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-features\/amy-schumer-hulu-show-big-secret-life-beth-1235114812\/\" data-vars-target-content-type=\"url\" data-vars-type=\"web_external_link\" data-vars-subunit-name=\"article_body\" data-vars-subunit-type=\"component\" data-vars-position-in-subunit=\"6\">she told The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>\u00a0in an interview published Friday.\u00a0\u201cAnd I\u2019m proud that my big secret only hurts me but it\u2019s been what I\u2019ve carried so much shame about for so long.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It all started about 2 years ago, when Schumer decided to wear shorts at the chiropractor and he noticed the scar on her upper thigh, from a very bad surfing accident at 16, which required 41 stitches in 3 layers. The chiropractor attributed her physical pain to her emotional trauma, and Schumer agreed<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u00a0\u201cThe metaphor that you need to deal with the emotional trauma from the past so you can get out of physical pain was not lost on me,\u201d &#8230;After that visit, Schumer realized that \u201cthese things aren\u2019t going to go away if we ignore them\u2014the past is just going to keep hurting you,\u201d she says. \u201cWhen you get to this age, you better evolve if you want to move forward.\u201d<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/6158580\/amy-schumer-interview-life-beth\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8216;It Feels Really Freeing.&#8217; Amy Schumer Lets Go of Teenage Trauma in New Hulu Series\u00a0<i>Life &amp; Beth<\/i><\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<p>Schumer has been dealing with her\u00a0trichotillomania since a hard time during her childhood when her dad declared bankruptcy after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and her mother left him for the married father of Schumer&#8217;s best friend. The hair-pulling became her way of dealing with the stress. She wore a wig to school to cover up a growing bald spot.<\/p>\n<p>This part about her has been weighing her down, until now, after deciding to let go of the shame and just share:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIt\u2019s been the thing that I\u2019ve been most ashamed of,\u201d she says. \u201cIt feels really freeing to finally let go of some of that.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>She has learned to deal with the condition:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cit\u2019s not that I used to have this problem and now I don\u2019t.
