Machado\u2019s win was about her <strong>peaceful fight for democracy in Venezuela<\/strong>, even when it put her life at risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83c\udf0e<strong> Standing Up for Democracy and Peace<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Norwegian Nobel Committee<\/strong> chose Machado \u201cfor her tireless work promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela and for her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.\u201d That means she was recognized for trying to help her country find peace through <em>democratic change<\/em>, not violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Machado has spent <strong>more than 20 years<\/strong> defending democratic rights in Venezuela &#8211; pushing for fair elections, freedom of speech, and respect for human rights in a country where those things have often been under attack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u270a <strong>Leading Through Peaceful Action<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Machado helped start <strong>S\u00famate<\/strong>, a civic group that trains volunteers to monitor elections, promote transparency, and make sure votes are counted fairly. She also served in the <strong>National Assembly<\/strong>, speaking out against corruption and government oppression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even when she was <strong>barred from running for president<\/strong> in 2024, she continued to organize opposition leaders and support peaceful civic participation instead of violence.
