To the High School Senior Who Got a “No”

The proof is in the history books: Steven Spielberg was rejected from film school three times. Warren Buffett was rejected from Harvard. Rejection isn’t the end of the story – it’s the beginning of the pivot. And if you’ve watched the Friends re-runs, you know how important it is to pivot. Pivot!

If you’ve been staring at a college admissions status update today, read this top to bottom – then read it from the bottom up.

The dream is over.
I will never believe that
I am enough.

A status update decided my future.
It is a lie to say
A school name doesn’t define me.
I know now
Hard work leads to nothing.
I’ll never admit
There is a path better than my first choice.

It is a tragedy.

Do you know that feeling when you disapoint your perents?

I thought I did, but it turns out they’re really proud I’m so independent and they’ve learned to stop being angry at themselves for some of my choices
